On September 14, 2006 I accepted the referral of two beautiful little children; a son and a daughter. That was the official start of my journey to Africa. I had always wanted to be a mother. I decided in 2005 that I was ready to become a mom. However, as a single woman, I knew my family would be built by adoption. On that day in September when I first saw the picture of my son and daughter I was in awe. These two beautiful children were meant to spend their lives with me as their mother. I felt so blessed. After some very tough ups and downs, six and a half months later, I was on a plane to Africa. On April 2, 2007 I was lead into a room filled with children singing, drumming and dancing. I am sure it was beautiful, but the only thing I saw in the room was a pair of gorgeous brown eyes looking at me from the crowd. I recognized my son immediately. After I met my son, my daughter was also placed in my arms. What a life changing experience to one morning wake up as a single woman and go to bed as a mother of two. Every moment since then, good times and hard times, have been worth the journey. I am so appreciative to ECHO for the grant they provided, as well as the support. The flexibility of the grant allowed me to use the grant money for the most needed expenses. The ECHO team truly believes and cares about what they are doing. I even received an encouraging email while in Africa. I thank ECHO for all you have done to help me fulfill my dreams of being a mom and uniting me with my wonderful children. Sincerely, Christi |
